Teaching and Research Philosophy Workshop

Learn what a research and/or teaching philosophy statement is, what it should include, and what it should look like.

Overview

Many institutions ask for a “teaching philosophy” and/or “research philosophy” as part of a job application. Are you unsure about what those are, exactly, or what they should include? Not convinced that you even have a philosophy for teaching or research? During this class we will talk about what statements of teaching and research philosophy are (or ought to be), what they should include, and what they should look like. We will also examine sample statements and consider what the experts recommend.

Join us as we nail down these seemingly mysterious genres and help you put your teaching and research philosophies into words. This class is intended for advanced graduate students preparing to enter the academic job market, but is open to all who are interested.
