Creating a Professional Online Presence

Learn how to create and maintain a professional presence in social media.

Overview

When potential employers Googles you, you don't want them to learn anything embarrassing—but learning nothing isn't much better. This two-part workshop focuses on creating and publishing online writing that will help you attract potential employers and build an audience for your work, no matter what your field.

In Section 1, we'll analyze some successful professional websites, portfolios, and profiles, and we'll discuss strategies for writing and revising effective content. There will be time to set personal goals for building your own online presence and to begin creating a practical plan for achieving them. In Section 2, we'll explore options for designing a professional website or portfolio. We'll consider what information and material your site should contain and how to organize its content. You'll also begin writing an introduction or bio for its front page.

Intended Audience

Faculty, instructional staff, and graduate students interested in using social media to advance their teaching, writing, and career.
