Are you a new student on campus? Are you having a hard time adjusting to remote learning? Are you feeling isolated from fellow students or overwhelmed by all of the writing work on your plate this semester? If you’d like encouragement, information, and support, consider joining the First-Year Writing Support Group!
In relaxed, weekly meetings of the First-Year Writing Support Group, you’ll meet other first-year students from across the university and receive support and guidance from a Writing Center instructor. Come talk about the challenges that you’re facing, learn from others that you’re not alone, and build up your resilience as a student writer in a caring environment. Be part of a supportive community and connect with others in the process.
During Fall 2020, the Writing Center will offer the First-Year Writing Support Group on Thursdays from 5:00-6:15 via Google Meet from October 8 through December 10. There will be no meeting during Thanksgiving week. While we hope that participants are able to join every session, we know that isn’t always possible, so we encourage students to come as often as they can. The focus of this group is first-year students, but we welcome any undergraduate students who would like to gain the support and community that this group intends to provide.
For priority consideration, please fill out this interest form by Thursday, October 8. If you have any questions, please contact Dottie Mayne at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to meeting you and working with you!
Please note that if you are enrolled in English 100, you are very welcome to join the First-Year Writing Support Group. There is an additional service, the E100 Tutorial, also available to you. The information at this link explains how to set up an appointment on Starfish to get help with your E100 assignments.
