Summer Term for UW-Madison Instructors

The Writing Center is open during Summer Term! We provide individual instruction, as well as workshops and additional writing support, for the early 4-week session and the 8-week session that immediately follows. The Writing Center serves current UW-Madison undergraduates, including students arriving for early-start programs, and graduate and professional students. We will be offering all-virtual services this summer to comply with the University’s move to online instruction.

If you would like to include information about Writing Center services in the summer courses you will be teaching, please feel free to include the paragraph below in your syllabus and additional materials. You can also direct students to the Writing Center’s Summer Term page for students here.

The Writing Center at UW-Madison helps undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines become more effective, more confident writers and believes that all writers benefit from sharing work in progress with knowledgeable, attentive readers. Writing Center instructors are here to work with you at any stage of the writing process—from figuring out a topic or planning out a long-term project, to making major revisions in an early draft, to polishing grammar and style. The Writing Center offers one-to-one consultations between writers and instructors via Virtual Meeting or Written Feedback. The Writing Center also offers a number of workshops during Summer Term, as well as a Graduate Writing Group for those who want a place and time to get work done in the company of other writers. Finally, for help day and night, the Writing Center hosts an extensive online Writer’s Handbook. To learn more, visit writing.wisc.edu or email classes@writing.wisc.edu.

Please keep in mind that we prefer students use our services voluntarily rather than as a requirement. If you are hoping to schedule the Writing Center to visit your class, please read more about our Outreach services and schedule your visit here.
